"I HAVE HAD THE GOOD FORTUNE OF LIVING A LONG, SUCCESSFUL LIFE AND CREDIT 4-H WITH HELPING ME DEVELOP

THE SKILLS THAT MADE IT ALL POSSIBLE.  AMONG THE MOST VALUABLE OF THESE SKILLS WERE LEADERSHIP,

CITIZENSHIP, AND SELF-CONFIDENCE.  I WROTE A POEM IN 1943, FOLLOWING THE FIRST OF THREE TRIPS TO NATIONAL

4-H CONGRESS THAT EXPRESSED MY DESIRE TO BECOME A LEADER AND HELPING YOUNGER MEMBERS.  I TAKE

PRIDE IN HAVING ACCOMPLISHED THESE GOALS MANY TIMES OVER.  THE 4-H AWARDS AND RECOGNITION I RECEIVED,

ESPECIALLY THE 1948 NATIONAL OUTSTANDING 4-H BOY, GAVE ME THE CONFIDENCE TO PURSUE AND ACHIEVE CAREER

AND LIFE GOALS.  I AM ETERNALLY GRATEFUL TO 4-H FOR HELPING ME DEVELOP THE SKILLS THAT HAVE SERVED ME

WELL MY ENTIRE LIFE.  I CANNOT IMAGINE A GREATER HONOR THAN BEING INDUCTED INTO THE NATIONAL 4-H HALL

OF FAME AND WILL CHERISH THIS RECOGNITION THE REST OF MY LIFE."
