LAWTON CONSTITUTION - DECEMBER 10, 2009 Russell Wahkinney Funeral for Russell Wahkinney, 84, Lawton, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mount Scott Comanche United Methodist Church with the Rev. Tim Byington officiating. Prayer service will be at 7 p.m Friday at the church. Mr. Wahkinney died Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2009. Burial will be at Mount Scott KCA Cemetery under direction of Comanche Nation Funeral Home. He was born Jan. 29, 1925, in Lawton, to James Wahkinney and Ollie Parker Wahkinney. He was a member of the Comanche Nation, a great-grandson of Chief Quanah Parker, and was a member of the Mount Scott Comanche United Methodist Church. He was employed with Popular and Bowmans Furniture for 30 years and Comanche Nation Food Distribution for the past six years. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and friends. He served in the Army from March 5, 1945 to Oct. 11, 1946. He enlisted again Jan.14, 1948 and served until Feb. 7, 1952. Survivors include his children and their spouses: Edward R. and Peggy Wahkinney, Anadarko; Karen Macias, Lawton; Dennis and Cindy Wahkinney, Sachse, Texas; Kenton Wahkinney, of the home; Kevin L. and Veralyn Wahkinney, Lawton; Eileen and Ramon Guerra, and Christine Torralba, all of Elgin; David N. Wahkinney, and Edwina J. Houseman, both of Lawton; Darrell and Jennifer Wahkinney, Indiahoma; Kenneth Wahkinney, of the home; Dorothea and Steve Perkins, Duncan, Lyndon and Karen Wahkinney, Lawton; Dean Wahkinney, Norman; and Jamie L. Wahkinney, Fort Worth, Texas; a sister, Joyce Wahkinney, Lawton; a brother, Collins Wahkinney, Norman; special uncle, Baldwin Parker Jr., Cache; aunt, Joann Sands, Cache; 30 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and many nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy L. Whitewolf Wahkinney; a son, Randall D. Wahkinney; parents, James and Ollie Parker Wahkinney; grandparents, Baldwin and Nora Parker; and three sisters and two brothers. Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m today at the funeral home. |
